Imo either a belt or skirt+shirt combo is usually a winner because you dont get the monotony.
For arms, the shoulder cut is super lame, the above elbow cut is usually much more interesting especially if its got some loose fabric or flaps.

Hard part is finding dresses like this. I know my wife would kill to have something like the one on the bottom, but anything that looks like it in normal clothing stores have clevage.
